As the leaves begin to change and fall tries to break through the vein of a warm Lubbock summer, several Lubbock Christian University students shared thoughts on what theyâ??re looking forward to most this autumn.
First Friday Art Trail ranges all across Lubbock. From the Buddy Holly Center to the Underwood Center in downtown Lubbock over to the Texas Tech Museum it stretches over the city. I have been before but had not been in several months. The last time I spent much of my time in the Underwood Center. However, this time I was in the Texas Tech Museum.
There is something called an â??it momentâ??. This is a moment in time that is changed with a before and an after. An â??it momentâ?? can be national, such as Katrina or 9/11, or incredibly small and personal, such as a car wreck with a simple broken headlight. Regardless, in that moment there is a change. Lubbock has undergone a change and for me itâ??s one of those â??it moments,â?? small as it may be. Showplace 6, after 38 years in business, has closed its doors and become silent.
â??Message From Your Heartâ?? is not only the title of the 11th song youâ??ll find on singer/song writer Kina Grannisâ?? fourth album titled â??Stairwells;â?? it is also the best way to summarize her songs. Her songs seem to come directly from her heart as she sings about love, heartache, and life. Sheâ??s not as well known as artists who have had the success of landing a song on the Billboard Hot 100, but she is one of the few who can translate her feelings directly into her songs. At the very least one of the songs will speak to you, if not all.
Iâ??m sure most of you are familiar with Toby Mac, and if you arenâ??t, you are definitely missing out on a great musician! I have seen him defined as Christian hip-hop or rap, but I think his music is more than that. Along with the hip-hop and rap he throws in some reggae and rock. I usually donâ??t go for much hip-hop or the sort, but the rock and reggae get my attention!
Homecoming weekend is almost a synonym for Master Follies, the most popular event on the Lubbock Christian University campus. This springâ??s theme was “The Greatest Show 2010,” featuring a fantastic opening video with Dr. Don “Doc” Williams as the ringmaster and featuring personalized circus wagons for each club.
This past weekend several students from Lubbock Christian University dressed themselves up in ridiculous outfits and made ridiculous faces on stage to show off the hard work and countless hours they spent in practice.
My friends and I walked into the theater 45 minutes early. But we werenâ??t the only folks last weekend watching the holiday hit “Valentines Day,” which was the number one movie at the box office.
On Saturday, January 23rd, Lora Deahl, Professor of Piano and Keyboard Literature at Texas Tech University, dazzled a small crowd during an hour and a half performance at Lubbock Christian University.
