My name is Jake Barnes and I am from Corpus Christi, TX. Before you ask, the answer is no, I don’t like the beach. I know it’s weird, but it’s just the way it is. I am the son of two teachers, one teaching Science and the other English. Growing up, I was always surrounded by art, whether it be music, drawing, theatre or literature. While my older brother gravitated towards music and theatre, I preferred writing and literature. This eventually led me to being an English major here at LCU, and even though it did take me a while to find my place I have enjoyed every second of it.
So, a bit about me as far as who I am and what I do, I am an avid reader. I love all things literature, from Science Fiction to High Fantasy, if it has words then chances are I’ll read it. I am also a writer. I write fiction/poetry and I am currently working on three books and a poetry collection right now. I am a movie enthusiast, watching and collecting, any genre, any style. I pride myself on being a “Nerd” in the best sense of the word. I enjoy the stereotypical things like comics, superheroes, video games, movies, books etc. But, I am also a nerd in things like History, Ancient Mythology, Disney, War strategy and other really cool things like that. I enjoy the things that make me happy. A redundant statement, but a true one. I believe that everyone should live their lives by doing the things they enjoy, without fear of being judged or treated as if they are lesser for it. Have fun. This is life; it is short so do what you love and never look back.
And finally, and most importantly, the thing to know about me is that I am a Christian. Every single thing that I do is because of Him. I wouldn’t be able to do the things I love if it wasn’t for Him. So everything I do, I do for Him. The best thing we can do is to live life and praise his name every step of the way.
So that’s me, confined into a few paragraphs, but I am a relatively open book. If you ever see me, come say hi, talk a while, I enjoy talking to people and getting to know them. I am pretty easy to get along with, and if you ever want to know more about me or what I do, or maybe to just hang out, all you have to do ask.
